Our Guide To Winter PPE Layering

How will you stay safe while working on site this winter?

During the colder months, construction workers often use heavier/bulkier PPE, which can restrict movement and put them at a higher risk of avoidable injuries. However, practicing proper PPE layering could make all the difference to your workers and on your site, this winter.

What is PPE layering?

By combining two or more garments into a layered system, we are able to achieve a higher level of protection, and comfort.  Combining multiple lighter layers, means site workers are able to build up a resistance to the harsh weather conditions, without compromising their comfort and safety.

A standard PPE layering system could include:

  • Base layer: A wicking layer that keeps perspiration away from your skin and prevents loss of heat.
  • Mid layer: An insulation layer, with properties to trap body warmth.
  • Outer layer: A protection layer, shielding against external conditions e.g. a waterproof layer.
